Eliza Lucas Pinckney
Eliza helped me understand South Carolina history by knowing that she had something to do with indigo. In class we had talked about indigo and how it was very important and rice had also rice had been a big cash crop after indigo. Eventhougth everyone was discouraging Eliza from growing it (even her mother) she kept on doing it and we have her to thank for that today. In the book it even says that the state of South Carolina owes a deby of gratitude to her nad it also says that indigo was of great economic importance to the economy of South Carolina.

Eliza was very important to South Carolina, that South, and economy and agricultural! She made great strides for the state, herself, and the field she was in.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think everyone was telling her not to...even her mother? Why do you think she went ahead and did it anyways? What would you do if you were in Eliza's shoes?
Because they didn't thing it was a "womans job" and because her mom wanted her to marry someone.
ReplyDeleteI thought she did it anywbecause she was a very hard working girl and her dad told her to try it and it think she wanted to obey her dad above all. I would try it anyway, but if it failed i don't think i wouldtry again like she did.
It definitely was a bit different to see a women doing this job, but more power to her! I am sure she caught alot of heat with her friends and family, like its listed. That must have been alot pressure for Eliza! Eliza ended up obviously making a great choice. Great job with your analysis and reasoning on figuring out why people said no and what compelled her to do it!
ReplyDeleteI agree and would do the same as you! I would definitely do it to challenge myself, and of course obey my parents, especially dad but if it failed I probably wouldnt have it in me to try again.. thats tough!
yeah thats what i thought to soo..... YEAH!!!
